Cruise Packing Tips

Packing for a cruise can feel daunting, given all the variables that there could be; temperature changes between ports of call, some cruises have onboard dress codes, all the different types of shipboard activities and shore excursions that you can do.

A cruise vacation covers a lot of ground, which means you’ll need a lot of flexibility with your wardrobe, too. You can generally count on transitioning from daywear to casual or dressy in evenings while aboard the ship.

Remember that there’s laundry service onboard, too.

LET'S START PACKING 🧳

Undergarments & Sleepwear

The basics, your underwear, socks (both athletic and dress socks), and bras/undershirts as the base for any day’s dress. You’ll want comfy pajamas to cozy up in after a long day spent exploring in port, too.

Casual Daywear/Outerwear

For cruising & port days, you’ll want to have a good selection of comfortable and casual clothing.

Be sure to check the weather!

Pack a good selection of shorts, jeans/khakis, sundresses/skirts, T-shirts (both long- and short-sleeved) and tank tops. You can mix and match things.

Be sure to bring along climate-appropriate outerwear depending on where you are cruising too to determine what kinds of clothes to pack for port days. Grab a sweater or sweatshirt it can be chilly on the boat some days and evenings.

Dressy/Smart Casual Evenings

Most nights, the dress code is smart casual, which means you look comfortable - could be anything from a skirt or dress to long pants, jeans, and a stylish top or button-down. Be sure to check if your cruise has a specific dress code for the evening.

Beachwear & Activewear

Whether you’re swimming at the pool on the cruise or beachside, you’ll want to bring along at least a couple of swimsuits & cover ups , they add protection on sunny hot days & you can throw them on to grab a bite to eat poolside or in the cruise cafe.

Ships have fully equipped gyms, outdoor tracks, fitness classes, so don't forget your workout attire.

Footwear

You’ll want comfortable walking shoes for long excursions in port, whether it’s a pair of sneakers or comfy flats. Sandals and flip-flops are must-haves for pool and beach days, heels/dressy shoes for evening dinners on board.

Bags

You’ll want a backpack and/or beach bag for carrying items while in port! I would highly recommend a wet bag to carry items that you don't want to get wet (trips to the beach).

Bring a bag for dirty laundry along.

Health & Safety Products

Cover your health and safety bases by packing any necessities like medications; seasickness, pain relievers, vitamins, and a basic, personalized first-aid kit.

Other things to pack for a cruise include sunscreen (and aloe vera for relief, just in case you miss a spot), as well as insect repellent if you’re sailing somewhere tropical.

Keep hand wipes and sanitizer close on hand to help keep the germs at bay while you’re on the go.

Hair & Makeup Products & Toiletries Products

I'd recommend bringing travel size things if possible, typically cruise bathrooms are pretty small plus it saves on weight in your suitcase.
